“I’ve heard something,” acting Mayor Laura Lewis said when asked about allegations that former mayor Svante Myrick lived with accused murderer of Alan Godfrey, William “Willie” Marshall. Ithaca Crime has confirmed that Myrick lived in a house owned by Marshall on Plain street.

Councilperson McGonigal, asked if he was aware that Myrick was living in a home owned by Marshall and if they were roommates, answered; “I don’t know. All I’ve heard is rumors.”

The “rumors” in question are numerous. They range from relatively minor issues such as Myrick not paying rent to reside at Marshall’s home (and thus receiving an undeclared campaign contribution) to suggestions he interfered in the murder investigation, as well as a claim Myrick will be asked to testify as a witness in Marshall’s murder case. Myrick and Marshall are also alleged to have been friends since youth.

There is also widespread speculation that Myrick’s premature departure from office was connected to his relationship with Marshall. By Myrick’s account he was involved in the investigation into Godfrey’s murder “from the time I got woken up by the Chief at 1:30 (AM)” the morning of the killing. Ithaca Crime has made several attempts at contacting Myrick for clarification and to ascertain if he was still residing at Marshall’s Plain street address at the time of Godfrey’s killing. Myrick did not respond.

In a Facebook video from the day after Godfrey’s murder, Myrick said “We want to get closure for the family and get this person off the streets.”
