Juveniles Detained After Machete Assault in Ithaca

Two juveniles were detained by Ithaca Police after an altercation at the Ithaca ReUse Center pavilion on Elmira Road on the evening of August 8, 2024.

The incident, reported at around 7:08 PM, involved multiple juveniles attacking another juvenile. According to the Ithaca Police Department, the attackers, both under the age of eighteen, used a machete during the assault. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspects fled the scene but were apprehended by police a short time later at the Dunkin’ Doughnuts on South Meadow Street, where a machete was recovered. The assailants, aged 15 and 17, were detained and taken to the Ithaca Police Department.

Both juveniles were later released into the custody of their parents, with multiple charges pending. Due to their ages, their identities have not been disclosed.

The Ithaca Police Department expressed gratitude to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Park Police for their assistance in the investigation.
