Ithaca Commons Shooting Leaves Two Injured

Two people were shot near the West End of the Ithaca Commons around 1:51 AM, Saturday, July the 29th.

Ithaca Police Officers were initially dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of East State street.

Shortly thereafter, a gunshot victim was was located in the alley way behind Ithaca City Hall on Green street.

Bangs Ambulance, Ithaca Fire Department and Ithaca Police officers responded to the scene.

Officers also responded to the West End of the Commons where another gunshot victim was located.

The second victim, a security guard at Moonies Bar & Nightclub, was shot in the back.

The suspect is believed to have fired two times with a 9mm handgun. Casings were recovered at the scene.

Officers determined that the two victims had been shot after a physical altercation, and the suspect had fled the area.

An Ithaca Police Department press release states the victims are undergoing surgery in regional trauma centers. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect is described as being a black male with a red hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and white shoes.
