At approximately 1020 PM Wednesday the Ithaca Police Department responded to a female in a mental health crisis threatening to jump off a railing on the West Buffalo St. bridge over the Cayuga inlet.
The woman had lacerations on her arms and appears to have engaged in self harm. Despite making threats of “using knives on the officers,” a female Ithaca Police Department crisis negotiator on duty was able to talk the woman down. The woman in crisis was disarmed and transported by Bangs Ambulance for a mental health evaluation.
The Ithaca Fire Department also responded to the scene.
