UPDATE: The Ithaca Police Department has issued a clarification, stating that “IPD responded on a report of a 14 year old being assaulted, but subsequently learned on scene that it was two adults who were assaulted.”

Kenneth W. Hallett, 64, was charged with Burglary, Assault & Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree following an incident at Titus Towers apartments around 1 PM Friday. Titus Towers are independent senior living apartments.

Hallett, who appears to be a resident of Titus Towers, is accused of entering an adjacent apartment armed with a knife and attempting to kill the resident who was inside. Hallett is also accused of injuring another person in the building who sustained a laceration to their forearm. City of Ithaca Police initially responded to a report of an assault of a 14 year old male.

Both victims were transported to the hospital by Bangs Ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

Hallett was apprehended by several Ithaca Police Department officers on scene. Additionally, Bangs Ambulance, The Ithaca Fire Department and The New York State Police also responded and assisted.

Hallett was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $500,000 Partially Secured Surety Bond with a 10% Deposit. A Felony Preliminary Hearing is scheduled in Ithaca City Court on January 17th.

Social media posts from an individual believed to be the accused indicate a history of mental illness.
