Arthaus Resident Charged With Criminal Possession of a Weapon

Jaymez Bailey, a 23-year-old resident of Ithaca, has been charged with criminal trespass and criminal possession of a weapon after an incident at the Ithaca Arthaus on Cherry Street on March 27, 2023.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers responded to a harassment complaint at around 7:35 PM and found that Bailey had forced his way into an apartment by kicking, punching, and pushing the door open. During the investigation, officers discovered that Bailey had made threats about possessing a handgun.

After conducting further investigations, the police were able to locate and confiscate the firearm. Bailey was taken into police custody and charged with the criminal possession of a loaded firearm, which is a class C felony offense, and criminal trespass in the second degree, which is a class A misdemeanor.

Bailey was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail.

Dispatch audio indicates that Bailey is a resident of the Arthaus, and that Ithaca Police officers had a recent interaction with him in the building. The Arthaus has been a focal point of crime since it was first opened in November of 2021. The building on Cherry street is the #1 location of calls for police assistance in the city.
