Around 8:40 AM on July 31st, Ithaca Police responded to a report of a nude female with a gun on the altar of Immaculate Conception Church on Geneva Street. Staff members reported that a gun was pointed at them, though they were able to escape the building.
The woman in crisis was known to law enforcement from interactions the previous evening.
Emergency dispatch reported her to have been screaming “religious preachings” and described her as “the same female from yesterday.”
A responding officer could hear the woman talking at the altar.
Officers were able to enter the building and take the woman into custody, requesting an expedited response from Bangs Ambulance.
The reported handgun and a knife were located on a nearby altar. The handgun was reported to be a replica Smith & Wesson BB gun.
The female was determined to be suffering a mental health crisis and was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for evaluation.
There are no charges currently pending.
