Cornell University Police have made an arrest in connection with the theft of a bait bike from the Hu Shih residence hall on the university’s North Campus.
The initial call to police occurred at 9:40 PM on Saturday, August 2nd, and the arrest itself took place shortly after 10 PM near Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
‘Bait bikes’ are bicycles fitted with a tracking device, and are often left in areas experiencing frequent theft.
Cornell police dispatch was able to track the bike in near real time. A suspect was taken into custody within 30 minutes of the initial call.
Despite attempts to contact the Cornell Police department for information about the use of bait bikes and specific details of the crime, no response has been received.
It is probable that the suspect arrested for the theft is Antonio P. Morro II, as the reported time of the incident and charges listed on the Cornell Police daily crime log align precisely with police dispatch audio of the bait bike theft.
Morro was charged with “Drugs,” larceny, possession of stolen property and trespassing. Morro has a prior arrest record for larceny, dating back to 2015.
The Cornell Police daily crime log lists more than a dozen bike and electric scooter thefts on campus since July.
