Homeless Shelter Window Broken By Addict In Fit For Syringes

The window of St. John’s Community Services, an agency that shelters people experiencing homelessness, was broken by a drug user upset he did not have syringes.

Just before 9 PM, October 24th, St. John’s staff requested assistance when a window at the facility was broken.

The individual suspected of breaking the window, a homeless intravenous drug user, has previously utilized the services of the Sothern Tier AIDS Program, in addition to St. John’s.

Dispatch audio indicates St. John’s staff believed the suspect was upset that he did not have syringes.

The individual, whom Ithaca Crime is not naming for privacy reasons, has previous arrests for charges including criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

St. John’s is frequently the site of emergency service activity, with the Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca Fire Department & Bangs Ambulance often found responding to the scene.

It is unknown if the individual suspected of breaking the window was taken into custody.
